Cough

A cough can be the result of many short term and long term pathologies, including some of the diseases mentioned on this page. For our cough trials we generally focus on patients with a persistent cough that lasts for more than eight weeks and does not have a clear underlying cause or identifiable trigger. Oftentimes, the exact reason for the cough cannot be determined based on standard diagnostic evaluations and tests. If you have a cough due to COPD or another known cause, you may be a candidate for a COPD trial or a trial investigating your diagnosis.

Current treatment options for a chronic cough include cough suppressants, inhaled corticosteroids, nasal steroids, and many other remedies. These options have shown varying levels of efficacy but are associated with side effects and many of the current options are better short term options than long term options. Research into novel therapies for chronic cough is ongoing, aiming to develop more effective treatments for conditions where current options are insufficient. Some of these emerging therapies we may be exploring include TRPV1 antagonists, antisense oligonucleotides, biological therapies, and many more. These emerging therapies represent promising approaches to address the underlying mechanisms of chronic cough and improve treatment outcomes, particularly for patients who do not respond adequately to current therapies.
